MULTI-FUNCTION LEVER Windshield wiper: Rotate the end of the control away from you to increase the speed of the wipers; rotate towards you to decrease the speed of the wipers. Rain sensing wipers (if equipped): The rain sensing wipers will automatically activate when moisture is present on the windshield and the multi-function switch is set to one of five auto/interval sensitivity settings. The wipers will continue to wipe as long as the presence of moisture is detected on the windshield. The speed of the rain sensing wipers will vary based on the amount of moisture detected on the windshield and the auto/interval setting. The speed is automatically increased at night. Note: The rain sensing wiper feature must be turned off before entering a car wash. Rotate the end of the control to the OFF position. Windshield washer: Push the end of the stalk: • briefly: causes a single swipe of the wipers without washer fluid. • a quick push and hold: the wipers will swipe three times with washer fluid. • a long push and hold: the wipers and washer fluid will be activated for up to ten seconds. Courtesy wipe feature: One extra wipe will occur a few seconds after washing the front window to clear any excess washer fluid remaining on the windshield.

General information about Anti Lock Brake System Mercury Removal & Recycling for 1996 Grand Cherokee, 1999 Ford Explorer, Mazda 1991-1992 Navajo 1988-1992 MX6 1992 626 1996-2001 B Series Pickups (4 wheel drive). Three 4-wheel drive Jeep models (Wrangler, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee) were produced with mercury acceleration sensors from 1990 to 2001 model years. Removal Procedure 1. Remove rear seat. 2. Locate sensor on center drive tunnel. Cut carpet and roll back to access sensor. 3. Release clips to disconnect wiring harness. Remove two bolts to release the sensor. ABS Acceleration Sensors • 1,200-1,350 ABS Acceleration Sensors per 55 ga. drum (depending on tightness of packing) • Average of 2.5 switches per ABS Acceleration Sensor (3 Daimler Chrysler, 2 Ford) • 3,000- 3,375 grams (6.6-7.4 pounds) of mercury per 55 ga. drum (assuming 1 gram per switch) • Assuming an average drum contains 7 pounds of mercury it will cost between $428-571 per pound to recover the mercury.
• On a per component basis, recycling will cost between $2.22 to $3.33 per acceleration sensor.

The charging system converts mechanical energy into electrical energy when the engine is running. This energy is needed to operate the loads in the vehicle’s electrical system. When the engine is running, battery power energizes the charging system and engine power drives it. The charging system then generates electricity for the vehicle’s electrical systems. At low speeds with some electrical loads “on” (e.g., lights and window defogger), some battery current may still be needed. When the ignition switch is in the ON position, battery ..Mcurrent energizes the alternator. Alternator Mechanical energy is transferred from the engine to the alternator by a grooved drive belt on a pulley arrangement. Through electromagnetic induction, the alternator changes this mechanical energy into electrical energy. Voltage regulator Without a regulator, the alternator will always operate at its highest output. This may damage certain components and overcharge the battery. The regulator controls the alternator output to prevent overcharging or undercharging. High speed alternator Beginning with the 1983 Camry, a compact, high-speed alternator with a built-in IC regulator is used on Toyota vehicles. Corolla models with the 4A-C engine use a different alternator with an integral IC regulator. While engine speeds and electrical loads change, the alternator’s output must remain even - not too
much, nor too little. The regulator controls alternator output by increasing or decreasing the strength of the rotor’s magnetic field. It does so, by controlling the amount of current from the battery to the rotor’s field coil.

Diagnosis and testing - The charging system requires periodic inspection and service. Specific problem symptoms, their possible cause, and the service required are listed in the chart below. The service actions require a thorough visual inspection. Problems identified must be corrected before proceeding with electrical tests. These electrical tests include: an alternator output test, charging circuit voltage- drop tests, a voltage regulator (non-IC) test, charging circuit relay (lamp, ignition, engine) tests, and alternator bench tests. Chevrolet/Ford/Dodge Transmission Removal, Installation and Testing

Check and record all codes and actions of your transmission before transmission is removed. This will help if you still have problems
after installation. Damage to your transmission may have been caused from some other external source. step by step instruction procedures: ..Disconnect negative battery cable, remove dipstick, place transmission shift lever in the neutral position. Raise and support vehicle. Remove all necessary skid plates if equipped. Remove any engine to transmission struts (if equipped), and any exhausts components required for transmission removal. Remove starter and converter inspection cover. Rotate crankshaft clockwise and remove torque converter bolts (nuts) from drive plate (flex plate). Remove all remaining transmission-to-engine bolts, and torque converter bolts. Move transmission rearward aprox.1 to3 inches and slightly down. Do not remove the transmission all the way, only a few inches (1 to 3 ) at a time. Check to make sure everything is disconnected and clear. You are now ready to fill the transmission. Amounts will depend on transmission type and pan size. Start with engine off and vehicle in park. Install recommended starting amount. (Refer to Fig.-__ for start and total, fill amounts). When transmission reaches the top full mark, shift transmission thru the gears one at a time, From park to low and then back again (3 complete times). Recheck fluid again and add as needed to top full mark.

The hybrid system was designed so you could to drive it like a traditional car. That way, you can enjoy the remarkably smooth & quiet ride.

Let the computer worry about how to save gas and reduce emissions. Startup Engine Warm-Up Reducing Emissions is the highest priority for Prius. It strives to remain a SULEV (Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle) at all times, which means the catalytic-converter must be kept warm even if that requires consuming some gas to accomplish that. Fortunately, you still get better than average mileage, even if the engine doesn’t shut off right away. Creating heat for the emissions system and heat to keep you warm is fastest and most efficient if you simply drive gently immediately after starting the Prius in the winter. Allowing the engine to run while the Prius is parked takes longer and is less efficient. “Just Drive It!” The user-manual states to turn the key and hold it until you hear a beep. Realistically, you can actually let go of the key immediately. Once the computer accepts your request, the engine will startup after preparation is complete. Think of it as clicking a button on a computer-mouse. The catch is you must still wait for the “READY” prompt before shifting into Reverse or Drive. The blue light, which looks like a thermometer in liquid, is located to the right of the speedometer. It indicates the engine is still cool. This is normal during engine warm-up, it is not a warning. It will usually disappear about in 5 minutes, depending on the outside temperature and if the Prius was recently used. Driving slowly immediately after startup, rather than just waiting while parked, is the most efficiently method of reducing warm-up time. Idling until warm-up is complete before driving takes longer and wastes gas.
